The U.S. market saw increased volatility today as the S&P 500 was driven by call buying ahead of tomorrow’s Jan. expiry. The Russell 2000 also saw elevated flows today, with 2.9x above average option volume and a 10.59 put call ratio. We also have the news today that the CBOE is contemplating changes to its VXST, should volumes continue to stay low following the period of elevated volumes in the VIX currently being seen. In Asia, Hong Kong based Contineo has launched a multi-issuer structured products platform that aims to provide greater access to equity-linked structured products for private banking and wealth management firms. Contineo is backed by Barclays, BNP Paribas, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JPMorgan, Société Générale and AG Delta and is aiming to go live early this year.
