Today saw increased volatility as the situation in Greece escalated following the government’s move to shutter banks in a bid to stall a run on savings accounts. Both the VIX and the VSTOXX shot up, with U.S. investors looking at spread trades between the indices to play the turmoil. In the U.K., defined benefit pension schemes are increasingly using equity synthetic strategies for risk management, with equity option mandates seeing particular growth in the liability driven investment industry last year, while the in the people and firms section Apollo has lost one of its principals.
