A proposed rule from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission meant to streamline how derivatives are treated when used by retail mutual funds could potentially backfire, making the funds more expensive to operate. Lawyers are also calling the proposed simplified rules confusing; not a great start. Daniel O’Leary reports.
