​Systematic Strategies Becoming Distorted Amid Changing Market Structure

Systematic strategies based on a fixed set of rules are becoming too big for the available liquidity in a changing market structure, according to portfolio managers. The changes in supply of vol combined with the tight risk limits of banks are affecting the reaction function of the market and subsequently distorting systematic strategy performance.
