​VIX Open Interest Decline Stumps Market Participants

Open interest in Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index futures and options has halved within the last six months, with levels not seen since 2012. But market participants are divided on what is actually causing the lull. The issue is important, as lower liquidity in the VIX could make hedging harder during times of market stress, proponents of the benchmark told EQDerivatives.
