Jerry, who has more than 26 years of investment experience during senior roles at 36 South, Investec, Peregrine Holdings and the South African Futures Exchange, is a thought leader in the volatility markets, chairing high profile educational and professional events, and is a frequent guest speaker and writer on volatility in the financial media. It seems some buysiders aren’t that pleased with options liquidity outside the top 100 names, while CBOE is again looking at changes to its short term VIX and eyeing a FTSE VIX. In the U.S., options volumes were down as the market waited on the monthly jobs report. While the employment numbers released Friday were great, the S&P500 took a hit and the VIX shot up 10%. In Europe, fund managers are seeing a spike in liquidity in biotech single stock options amid an increase in takeover announcements and merger agreements in the sector, while in Asia the cut in interest rates by the People’s Bank of China could fuel a similar rally in China shares seen in November following the central bank’s last rate cut.
