As managing director of quantitative strategies, Gerben is responsible for APG’s investment portfolios that are systematically managed. The investments are multi asset and include equity, commodities and corporate bonds with AUM exceeding EUR100 billion. The multi-manager portfolios are long-only and managed both internally and externally. Trends that have Gerben’s attention are digital alpha, responsible and sustainable quant investing, alternative data/AI and model risk management.

Prior to joining APG in 2010, Gerben was employed by ING Investment Management and Robeco. He earned his Master’s degree in technical mathematics from Delft Technical University, Netherlands and his Ph.D. from the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Gerben holds the CFA designation.

He has been published in the academic finance literature and is a frequent speaker at international conferences for both academics as well as practitioners.
In 2015 Gerben was awarded with a royal honor and appointed as a member of the Order of Oranje-Nassau as one of the youngest decorated people in the Netherlands.
