Kazuhiro Shimbo serves as the chief investment officer, quantitative strategies of Asset Management One USA, an investment advisory company focusing on developing and managing systematic investment strategies. AMO USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Asset Management One Co., one of the largest investment management groups in Asia, headquartered in Tokyo. AMO USA manages assets primarily for institutional clients. Products and solutions include CTAs, quantitative global macro and customized and outcome-oriented risk premia solutions.

As the global head of quantitative investment strategies, Kazuhiro manages the firm’s global investment team, which includes quantitative specialists in both New York and Tokyo. He is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the quantitative investment programs including the research process, portfolio management, execution and investment risk management. Prior to his current role at AMO USA, he was the chief investment officer of Mizuho Alternative Investments, which merged with AMO USA in January 2020. Prior to that, he was employed at the Industrial Bank of Japan, which later became part of the Mizuho Group, where he served as a quantitative researcher and a portfolio manager at the bank’s derivatives market-making desk.

Kazuhiro earned his doctorate in applied probability from Cornell University. He also holds a Master’s in financial economics from the University of London and a Bachelor’s in Physics from Kyoto University in Japan.
