Michael Ruetz

deputy chief investment officer, Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies

Michael Ruetz joined Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies (MACP) in December 2012 as director of risk management and asset allocation for the grantmaking entities under the MACP umbrella. In 2017, Mike was promoted to deputy chief investment officer. In addition to his expanded role working with the chief investment officer, Mike continues to manage the risk management and asset allocation team.

Mike previously was director of risk management and asset allocation for the North Carolina Retirement System (NCRS), a USD90 billion multi-asset portfolio. Prior to NCRS, he was a managing director at the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (MSRPS). Before joining MSRPS, Mike worked for several years at Goldenberg, Hehmeyer and Company and Henning and Carey Trading Company as a proprietary fixed income trader.

Mike has earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, MBA with high honors, and master’s degree in applied economics. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Mike is a member of the investment committee for the GHR Foundation and a member of the board of directors for CornerHouse.
