Takafumi Nohara

chief fund manager, equity investment group, index investment division, Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management

Takafumi Nohara is a quantitative portfolio manager in the Index Equity Group at Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management, where he runs foreign equity market-cap weighted, smart beta, and enhanced index strategies. Since September 2022 he has built a cost-aware trading and operating framework that lowers transaction and custody expenses and supports new quantitative launches; his current focus is a derivative-driven strategy delivered through a QIS platform.

Previously, he spent eight years at several Japanese asset-management firms in research, quantitative active-equity management, and passive-solution design. During that period he modernised data pipelines so that traditional factors could automatically adapt to shifting market regimes, and he devised alternative factors that merge fund-flow statistics, hedge fund holdings, short interest data, and text based signals, generating incremental alpha in the United States, Japan, and Europe. He has also worked with academic partners on natural language processing research to deepen investment insights.
